The European Divorce Network has been organising annual conferences since 2002.
This year’s divorce conference took place from 10-11th October 2024 in Berlin, Germany, and was organised by the Einstein Center Population Diversity, the Hertie School and the University of Duisburg-Essen.
The 22nd conference of the European Divorce Network brought together around 60 international researchers over the course of two days to discuss the latest research findings in the field. The conference programme covered eight different thematic blocks, which addressed a range of issues related to union dissolution. These included cross-country developments in union dissolution, the risk of union dissolution, living arrangements after parental separation (with a special focus on shared physical custody), the role of gender, economic consequences of union dissolution, and the consequences of union dissolution for children. A new topic at this year’s conference was a session on the health consequences of union dissolution. In this session, researchers shed light on specific health issues, such as mental health, antidepressant trajectories, physical activity as well as smoking and drinking behaviour across the process of marital dissolution.
