Anna Oksuzyan is Professor of Demography and Health at the School of Public Health, Bielefeld University. She is also affiliated with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) and the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). Anna Oksuzyan studied medicine at Yerevan State Medical University and public health at the American University of Armenia, and earned her Ph.D. in Health Sciences from the University of Southern Denmark. Before joining Bielefeld University, she led the Max Planck Research Group “Gender Gaps in Health and Survival” at MPIDR.
A central focus of her research has been understanding gender differences in health and survival. She uses Nordic population registers, linked survey-register data, and longitudinal national surveys to investigate how gender shapes treatment-seeking behavior, health reporting, and health outcomes across the life course. Her research has been published in leading journals, including Demography, Social Science & Medicine, The Journals of Gerontology: Series A and Series B, PNAS, The Lancet, American Journal of Epidemiology, and the International Journal of Epidemiology.
Her current research focuses on three main areas: the health and well-being implications of long commuting for workers and their family members (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101125503), the use of eHealth technologies, and the health of sexual minority populations.
