Dr Arne Bethmann is a survey methodologist and data scientist specialising in improving the quality of large-scale socio-economic and health surveys. As Country Team Leader and a Principal Investigator for the German sub-study of the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), he develops and implements innovative methods such as machine learning, qualitative interviewing, adaptive survey design and record linkage to enhance the reliability and validity of empirical research. He places particular emphasis on integrating qualitative and quantitative approaches. While his primary focus is on advancing research infrastructures for studying ageing, family diversity, health disparities and social inequalities, he also regularly collaborates on research in these areas.
