SUMMARY:ECPD at the Sophie-Charlotte Salon 2026: Conflicts — Exploring Paths to Resolution
DESCRIPTION:The Einstein Center Population Diversity (ECPD) will be part of the Sophie-Charlotte Salon 2026\, hosted by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities (BBAW) on January 17\, 2026. \nThe Sophie-Charlotte Salon is a public interdisciplinary event that brings together perspectives from science\, history\, culture\, politics\, and society. Under the overarching theme “Resolving Conflicts”\, the 2026 edition addresses one of the most pressing questions of our time: how conflicts can be understood\, negotiated\, and transformed in times of multiple crises. \n📍 Event details \nDate: January 17\, 2026 \nTime: From 19:00 \nVenue: Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities \nAkademiegebäude am Gendarmenmarkt \nMarkgrafenstraße 38\, 10117 Berlin \nAdmission: Free – no registration required \n  \nECPD Contribution: Conflict and Family (Poster Presentation) \n🕖 19:00 – 23:00 \nAs part of the Salon\, ECPD will present the poster “Conflict and Family”\, focusing on the complexities of family relationships. \nThe phrase “Family is not a word. It is a sentence.” captures the multilayered nature of family life. Families can be sources of care and support\, but they may also be shaped by tensions\, conflicts\, and—in severe cases—physical or psychological violence. \nECPD takes a differentiated look at diverse family structures\, dynamics\, and behavioral patterns\, with particular attention to conflict and violence within families. \nThe Einstein Center Population Diversity\, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Michaela Kreyenfeld (Academy Member\, Hertie School)\, will present its research and mission through this poster contribution.

SUMMARY:TUESDAY DIALOGUES: We need to talk about transition to adulthood
DESCRIPTION:Wir müssen über das Erwachsenwerden sprechen \nEurope is experiencing a demograhic shift towards an older society. This makes young people a new political minority. Arnstein Aassve\, head of the EU-funded FutuRes Policy Lab\, will outline possible consequences of this\, based on demographic data for the near future – before inviting a discussion of what could be possible  solutions to strengthen the voice of young people. This is the last talk given within the framework of the FutuRes Policy Lab\, the legacy of which we hope to carry into coming science-for-policy projects. \nSpeaker: \nProf. Dr. Arnstein Aassve\, Professor of Demography\, Department of Social and Political Science\, Bocconi University\, Milan | Principal Investigator of the EU-funded FutuRes project \n\n\nDie Veranstaltungen finden jeweils online von 13:00 Uhr bis 14:00 Uhr MESZ/MEZ statt. | The Tuesday dialogues always take place online (Zoom) from 1-2 pm\, CEST/CET.\nWährend der Veranstaltung wird eine Simultanübersetzung Deutsch-Englisch angeboten. | Simultaneous translation German-English will be provided throughout the event.\nUnsere Zoom-Lizenz ist DSGVO-konform. | Our Zoom licence is GDPR-compliant.\n\n
